Race Info

The Thieves Road races take place along a historic drove path running from the Pentland Hills outside Edinburgh to Peebles. The trail race is approximately marathon distance and finishes at race HQ in Peebles. The ultra marathon takes in the same route as the trail race, but then goes out from Peebles to tackle the Dun Rig Horse Shoe – a serious bit of climbing which will see the total distance for the day hitting 45 miles with nearly 6900ft of climbing.

The trail race is suitable for all runners has stunning scenery as well as varied underfoot conditions. The ultra marathon is suitable for all levels of runner, but do not underestimate the amount of climbing in the second part which also has some short sections across open moorland.

Runners in the ultra marathon must either have a GPX of the route on their phone/watch or a map on them. You can download the GPX file at the bottom of this page, from the Route Map section.

The course will be full marked in addition to the pre-existing national trail way-markers. There will be a water station at West Linton miles. For those running the ultra marathon, there will be a drop bag available to them when they arrive at race HQ in Peebles to start the second part of the course.

Race will be held under Scottish Athletics Event Permit.

The ultra marathon is a UTMB qualifying event, awarding 3 points to finishers.
